Squirrel Evictor Strobe Light and Rat Repeller Review

The Squirrel Evictor is simply amazing! If you want to learn how to get rid of rats in your attic, read on. Let me relate my personal experience with the Squirrel Evictor. My family had an ongoing and seemingly unending rodent problem that went on for 18 years. We had rats in our attic. No matter how much we trapped them, sealed their access points, etc. they would always chew a new hole through our cedar siding and be back in the attic again. We hired various pest control companies, snap trapped, electronic zapped, glue boarded, and generally killed many rats while sealing every entry point, crack and crevice. But they always got back in. We researched every way possible on how to get rid of rats. We also tried various repellents with varying degrees of success. But, in the end, the rats always came back. It seemed there was no hope and we would have to live forever with the scurrying of little feet in our attic. Finally we came to the decision to remove our cedar siding and stucco the house with concrete board trim, a move we felt would make it very difficult for any rodent to enter our attic again. So we planned for the day when we would redo the house.
Suddenly, a Solution:
Oddly enough, about a year before work started on our house, I came across an article on a site for the pest control industry. In it, one of the large pest control companies in Central Florida had tested and ultimately incorporated a type of strobe light, the Squirrel Evictor, to repel rodents in their customers attics and crawl spaces. Normally I would have been pessimistic about the chances of such a thing working, but to see one of the large local pest control companies using this successfully, overcame my disbelief. I set about ordering these lights and putting them in our attic. A Miracle! No more sounds of little feet running across the ceiling. No more new holes chewed in our siding. It actually worked!
Even though, after 18 years, we found the solution, we went ahead with our stucco job as wood siding in Florida is so prone to rot, water intrusion, mold, etc in addition to being unable to keep out determined rodents. For almost a year before we put up the stucco on our house, we were rodent free and remain so.This is a device to which I wholeheartedly give my seal of approval. It worked when nothing else, including professional help, would. My personal experience with this product is overwhelmingly positive. If you ever go into the attic with the Squirrel Evictor on (actually not safe as it is blindingly bright), you will immediately see why no rat or squirrel could stand to be near one. It is unnerving to say the least. The Squirrel Evictor is a hands down winner if you need to chase rodents from an enclosed space. Order the Squirrel Evictor from Amazon here.
What exactly is it?
The Squirrel Evictor MB10k is a 175,000 candle power high intensity strobe light that is silent and has no heat discharged. This light pulses 92 times a minute and drives rodents batty. It boasts a 10 foot industrial strength electrical cord with a standard 3 prong plug. In addition, there is a sturdy steel chain and hook for hanging the Squirrel Evictor. This is connectd to a tough aluminum enclosure. It is a sturdy unit. It is designed to cover an area of approsimately 900 square feet. The larger MB100k unit is 1,000,000 candle power and designed to cover an area of 1600 square feet. Both units are made to be left on 24 hours a day.
What about the electric bill?
The MB10k running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year uses 105.12 kilowatt hours per year. Based on the 2005 National Government average cost of $.086 per kilowatt hour, the MB10k uses about $9.04 running continuously for a year. The bulb is guaranteed for one year's use also.
Does it really work?
The manufacturer says the lights are 100% effective at repelling squirrels, rats, raccoons and about any rodent. Droppings from animals can harbor diseases, not to mention bad odors. These animals are often flea or tick ridden. Rodents can cause structural damage by chewing or digging. Even worse is the risk of fires from chewed wiring. This high intensity light interferes with the normal life cycle of animals and it disturbs their sensitive vision. The strobe effect is different from the typical "party" style strobe light and pulses at a slower rate that is very disruptive to rodents and small animals. They just can't stand it.
It has been featured on PBS's Ask This Old House and also in Pest Control Magazine. It is the clean, safe, and effective solution to driving out pests in attics and crawl spaces. Order the Squirrel Evictor here and get peace of mind.
The Good:
- Non-toxic, safe, clean and easy rodent control
- No need to set and check traps, glue boards just "set and forget" till bulb change.
- No handling of dead rodents.
- Works continuously to repel rodents before they get established and cause damage.
The Bad:
- Initial investment is higher than some other repellent devices.
- Rodents are not killed but they are driven from the attic or crawl space.
Here is another review of the Squirrel Evictor by R. Reese
We have had squirrels in the attic for years, in fact ever since I owned the house for about 15 years. You name it and we tryed it. Nothing worked.
Traps, vinegar, moth balls, red pepper, etc. I did some research on the internet, read lots of reviews, and even went to [...] to see strobe lights being used to get rid of squirrels[...] is quite a bit of money to spend on a light. In the end the result was well worth it. Less than 1 week and there was no sign of squirrels in the roof.It may have been a shorter period of time but this house is located in the country side so we only travel there 1 time per week. On very rare occasions a squirrel is seen in my yard but they stay well clear of the house... To read the rest of the review click here
Any complaints?
As of 9/30/2011, out of 17 customer reviews on Amazon about the light, 14 were very positive and 4 were negative for an overall 4 out of 5 stars average. One negative reviewer was baiting live traps with peanut butter while using the lights which the manufacturer does not recommend. The poor results for the other 3 negative reviews are unknown. It should be noted though that the lights must be placed properly so there are no shadows free of the strobe light where squirrels or rats can hide. Also, the attic or crawlspace must me dark with no ambient light shining in or the effectiveness of the lights is decreased. These might be reasons for the few people who did not achieve the results they wanted, but cannot be determined from their reviews. All other reviews were very positive and indeed my own experience has been that with rats, after 18 years, this is the one and only thing that got rid of the rats in my attic. So far, it is rated 4 out or 5 stars on Amazon.
So, to sum it up, the Squirrel Evictor is the most powerful and reliable method of repelling squirrels, rodents, and other small animals from attics and crawl spaces in the opinion of this review site. If you have been at your wit's end with an attic or crawl space rodent problem, get the Squirrel Evictor.
